Discount in shift advance: how it is calculated
Published on
Discount is the word that appears in the simulator and on the confirmation screen of TCI's shift advance. It is the cost of the transaction for the professional, and understanding how it is calculated helps you decide when and how much to advance. This article explains the concept, the factors that go into the calculation, why the amount changes from one day to the next and how to simulate before advancing.
01
What the discount is
The discount is the difference between the face value of a credit and the amount paid for it up front. When you advance shifts of a certain gross amount and receive a smaller net amount, the difference is the discount. The term comes from the financial market, where securities that mature in the future are traded today for a smaller amount; the logic is the same: being paid earlier has a price, and that price grows with the waiting time that is shortened.
In shift advance, the discount is not loan interest. There is no outstanding balance, it does not run month after month and there are no installments: it is a single deduction, applied once, at the moment you advance.
02
How the discount is calculated in shift advance
On TCI's platform, the discount is proportional to the days between the advance and the institution's next payment window. This is what is called a pro-rata calculation: instead of a fixed amount per advance, the discount is spread day by day. Three factors go into the calculation.
The days until the next window
Each institution pays shifts in a payment window: the next window is the date on which the institution would pay the shift if you did not advance it, and the discount is calculated up to that date. The simulator on the Shift Advance page shows that date and how many days are left until it. The more days left, the larger the discount; the closer to the window, the smaller. Advancing a shift with a few days left before the window costs less than advancing the same shift with many days ahead.
The window is not the day the money lands in your account. The advance's PIX follows the time of the transaction: for requests made by 1 p.m., the PIX lands the same day, by 6 p.m.; for requests made after 1 p.m., payment is made the next business day, by 6 p.m. The 1 p.m. cut-off may vary by institution. Brasília time.
The gross amount advanced
The discount is calculated on the gross amount of the shifts you chose to advance. Advancing two equal shifts instead of one doubles the gross and doubles the discount, with the same days until the window. Since you choose how many shifts to advance, you also choose the size of the discount.
The rate defined in the credit analysis
The third factor is the rate applied in this pro-rata calculation. It is not a single number for everyone: as the simulator's note says, interest rates are defined according to the credit analysis performed. That is why this article does not give a percentage; the figure that applies to you is the one that appears on the app screen, before confirmation, and the estimate is the simulator's.
03
In short: days, amount and rate
Putting the three factors together, the discount of an advance grows with the number of days until the next window, grows with the gross amount advanced and depends on the rate defined in the analysis. The net amount that lands in your account is the gross minus that discount. All of it appears on the screen before you sign: gross, discount and net, with nothing hidden.
04
Why the discount changes from one day to the next
Whoever simulates the same advance on different days sees the discount go down. It is not an error: since the calculation is pro-rata, each day that passes is one day less until the window, and the discount falls in the same proportion. Once the window has passed, the next one enters the calculation and the number of days goes up again. The simulator reflects this variation: the same number of shifts, simulated on different dates, shows a different discount and net.
05
How to simulate before advancing
The simulator on the Shift Advance page does the math with your numbers. You adjust two controls, how many shifts you want to advance and the average value of each, and the simulator shows:
- the date of the next window, on which the institution would pay the shift, and how many days are left until it;
- the gross amount;
- the estimated discount for those days;
- the net amount, that is, what you would receive.
It is an estimate: the final amount is the one your institution's app shows at the time of confirmation, with the rate from your analysis. But the estimate is already useful for comparing scenarios: advancing one shift or the whole month, now or closer to the window.
06
The discount is not loan interest
The comparison is inevitable, so it is worth making the difference clear. Loan interest applies to an outstanding balance that keeps existing until the last installment, and can grow with delays. The advance's discount is deducted once, on a shift you have already worked, and after the PIX there is nothing more to pay: the institution pays the shift on the original agreed date. There is no debt on your CPF and no credit limit used.

Frequently asked questions
Is the discount fixed?
No. It is proportional to the days left until the next payment window and to the gross amount advanced, and the rate is defined in the credit analysis. That is why the same advance has a smaller discount the closer it is to the window.
What is the discount percentage?
There is no single percentage: interest rates are defined according to the credit analysis performed. The percentage that applies to you appears on the app screen before confirmation, and the simulator on the Shift Advance page gives an estimate.
Does advancing several shifts at once increase the discount?
The total discount grows with the gross amount, so advancing more shifts produces a larger discount in reais. The proportion, however, is the same: for the same days until the window, the discount per real advanced does not change.
Where do I see the discount before confirming?
On the confirmation screen of your institution's app, next to the gross and the net, and, as an estimate, in the simulator on the Shift Advance page.
Do the math with your own numbers in the simulator and see how shift advance works, from the request to the PIX.
